Ferroflow Automatic Ferrofluid Display
Ferrofluid is an iron-rich suspension fluid that becomes strongly magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field. It was originally invented in 1963 by NASA's Steve Papell as a liquid rocket fuel that could be drawn toward a pump inlet using magnets in zero gravity. And while it was never effective as rocket fuel, it does create an incredible art display.
Ferroflow is a glass capsule full of Ferrofluid, that generates a magnetic field in its housing in order to manipulate the fluid, making it spike and slowly rise up. It's similar to a lava lamp, but way more space age, and with no heat required. The addition of an integrated red LED creates an amazing visual experience.
Crafted of brushed T8 anodized aluminum and custom, high polish laboratory glass in a stainless steel base, it's a durable and fingerprint-resistant piece that will provide a lifetime of interactive art.
