Nicknamed "the Crocodile" because of his tenacity and skill on the tennis court, René Lacoste also had a reputation for innovation. During a particular match in 1929, he sported a unique shirt of his own design - the original polo shirt. This jump started his eponymous fashion label, Lacoste which quickly grew to include an entire collection of clothing, footwear, and accessories.
