These Trilobite specimens, an ancient relative of spiders, horseshoe crabs, and scorpions, is uniquely detailed, the result of rapid underwater landslides called turbidite sequences that occurred when continents were shifting. Its contorted body position suggests a struggle against being buried. This specimen is from the Lichid family, well-known and widely distributed—its long genal appendages and stalked eyes enabled it to escape predators or mimic debris and sink to the ocean floor. Both features evolved multiple times in the trilobite lineage, demonstrating their adaptive power.
